Injection Treatments

Could an injection help you?

Injection treatments may be recommended when pain, inflammation, or other symptoms are not improving enough with conservative treatment alone i.e. physiotherapy, chiropractic or other similar treatment modality.

Depending on your symptoms, diagnosis, and individual needs, an injection may be used alongside other treatments such as physiotherapy.

Before recommending an injection, we will take the time to understand your symptoms, discuss your options, and make sure the treatment is appropriate for you.

Types of injections we offer

The type of injection recommended will depend on what is causing your symptoms, the area being treated, and what we are hoping to achieve. For example.

Corticosteroid injections are primarily used to help reduce inflammation.

Corticosteroid injections may be considered where pain and symptoms are being driven by inflammation in a joint or the surrounding soft tissues. The aim is often to settle an irritated or inflamed area, reduce pain, and make it easier to return to movement, exercise, and rehabilitation.

Hyaluronic acid works differently. Rather than acting primarily to reduce inflammation, it is designed to support the natural lubrication and cushioning within a joint.

It may be considered for people with certain joint conditions, particularly where changes within the joint itself are contributing to pain and stiffness.

For some people, the aim is to help improve comfort and movement and reduce symptoms over a longer period, rather than simply settling a short-term inflammatory flare.

Botulinum Toxin (Botox) injections may be used as part of the treatment of certain headache and migraine conditions.

Following a thorough assessment, we can discuss whether this treatment may be suitable for you and what you can expect from the injections. Often patients have exhausted physiotherapy and/or chiropractic treatment or simply don’t find medications useful or want to remain taking medication long-term.

There isn’t a single injection that is best for every condition, and sometimes an injection may not be the most appropriate treatment at all.

Your clinician will assess your symptoms, discuss the available options, and explain the potential benefits and limitations of each treatment, so that you can make an informed decision about what is right for you.

Your appointment will begin with a Consultation and Assessment.

We will:

Depending on the area being treated and your individual needs, injections can be landmark guided or with ultrasound guidance, making the injection safe and effective.

Ultrasound guidance allows the clinician to locate the relevant structures on imaging and guide the injection where required. In other cases, an injection can be safely and appropriately performed using bony landmarks and palpation of the affected structures.

Your clinician will discuss the most suitable approach for your treatment.

We will explain what you may experience following your injection, including when you may be able to return to your usual activities and any specific advice relevant to your treatment.

You will also be given clear aftercare information and advice on what to do if you have any concerns following your procedure.

Your injection will be carried out by an appropriately trained and experienced clinician.
